Make a Meal
Make a Meal is a group volunteering program providing families staying at either Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane or Ronald McDonald House Herston with a home cooked meal once per week.
Families can find comfort in coming home to a healthy home cooked meal, hearing laughter in the kithcen and enjoying a meal served by warm and friendly faces.
Your team will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving dinner the families staying in the House on the night under the supervision of our Corporate Volunteer Engagement Officer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we come and look at the kitchen/facilities before our Make a Meal date?
Absolutely! Just contact us to arrange a suitable time.
Can we wash and chop our produce at home?
All food must be prepared onsite or be purchased from a commercial retailer. We cannot allow any food to be handled at home. This includes chopping raw vegetables, marinating meats or preparing baked goods.
Can we bring our children so they learn the importance of volunteering?
For safety reasons, everyone coming with a volunteer group must be a minimum of 16 years. Anyone in your group aged 16 or 17 must be accompanied 1:1 by an adult.
How is Make a Meal served?
Meals are served buffet style. Your team will be required to serve the food to the families out of the Bain Marie’s provided.
What if we cook too much food?
We love leftovers! We’ll supply containers and labels for your team to package and store any leftovers in our communal fridges. This means that families who couldn’t make it to Make a Meal still get to enjoy the delicious food.
Do we need to provide our own cups/plates/utensils?
We will provide all the utensils you need on the night, your group are responsible for the meal itself.
What if we have more volunteers who want to help with Make a Meal?
We recommend no more than 10 volunteers at Herston and no more than 12 at South Brisbane. However, if you need the extra hands to decorate the dining room or run other activities just check with us first.
What if we need to cancel our Make a Meal?
We understand that some things are out of your control, please give us as much notice as possible if you will no longer be able to attend. We can assist with extra volunteers if needed, or you could opt to have dinner delivered to the house instead.
