You can help seriously ill students get back to their fullest potential

At 10 years old, Luka was admitted to hospital suffering from chronic headaches and sinus pain with severe pain behind her eye.  After 2 weeks in hospital, and a multitude of tests, Luka was diagnosed with orbital cellulitis and septicaemia.

The infection had spread through her sinuses and was just 1 cm short of reaching her brain.  After many CT scans and MRI’s and a change of hospitals to a specialised paediatric hospital, Luka underwent her 1st surgery to drain this infection away from her brain.

During this time Luka missed a significant amount of school, including her end of year school camp, and unfortunately had to undergo further surgery as the infection was beginning to return; her headaches had returned and her sinuses were beginning to block again.

Luka’s mum, Ange, made contact with the Ronald McDonald Learning Program and Luka was paired with an amazing and dedicated tutor, who has helped her catch up with her peers.  Amazingly, Luka exceeded all her goals well ahead of the expected timeframe thanks to the wonderful and nurturing support of her tutor.

Luka has started in Year 7 this year.  She has really settled into high school, and with just a few hours remaining of her RMLP tuition, she feels she has been given the best possible start to high school

“Terina gave me the confidence I needed to change school and move from my
small primary school to a big high school.  She helped me believe that I really can
 do anything if I try my hardest and to not let things get on top of me;
 I don’t need to worry because I am capable.”, says Luka.

Your donation today will help seriously ill students like Luka get back to their fullest potential with support from the Ronald McDonald Learning Program.
