Mackay couple, Carrie and Roberto, began their four-month journey at Ronald McDonald House following the premature birth of their son, Ruben, at just 26+2 weeks.

They received a phone call at about 11:00pm one night to come to Ruben’s bedside, quickly, as the Doctor had identified a bowel perforation. Situated just across the road and within walking distance of the NICU, they rushed over, relieved that they were in direct proximity given the seriousness of the information. Ruben’s surgery was successful, and with each passing day, he grew stronger and stronger, surrounded by the love and support of his family.

“We are very grateful we were able to stay and be so close to Ruben for those four months,” she said, filled with emotion. Ronald McDonald House had been more than a place to stay; it had been a sanctuary, a lifeline, during their family’s most challenging chapter.”
