As COVID restrictions ease across Australia, many more families are travelling far from home to receive treatment for their seriously ill children.
Families like Fiona’s with her newborn babies, Mitchell and Ruby. Staying at Ronald McDonald House meant Fiona could be close to her newborn twins, born at just 24 weeks and in desperate need of their mother to survive another day.
“Ruby or Mitchell might be having a bad day or have some infection and I would be able to come and lay them on me and you could see their vitals even out and they would relax and calm down.
Supporters like you helped Fiona stay by her babies’ sides when only skin-on-skin contact with their mum helped them pull through.
We urgently need to raise an additional $59,000 to provide 365 days of accommodation and support for families so they can be right where they need to be –with their seriously ill child.

Fiona’s newborn twins Mitchell and Ruby were born at just 24 weeks, after she was rushed to hospital from her country town home. With her newborn twins clinging to life in hospital, Fiona’s world suddenly seemed very dark.
“I wasn’t doing too well. I just felt so guilty, like it’s my fault – they’re probably going to die and it’s my fault,” Fiona remembers.
Ronald McDonald House provided a place of love and safety in that critical moment and for the long, long days and nights that followed.
“I can’t imagine what my mental health would have been like if I’d been stuck in a hotel room by myself, or at home, worrying about my babies,” she says.
