Jude’s mum Sam, dad Nathan and big brother Micah had everything ready for his arrival – a little crib, chair and special toys. They were looking forward to showing him his very first Christmas tree.
But Jude was diagnosed with transient abnormal myelopoiesis – a leukaemia associated with infants who have Down Syndrome. In Jude’s case it made it difficult for him to breath and he was rushed to intensive care. That very first Christmas, Jude’s family stayed with us.
Ronald McDonald House were able to provide a home away from home for Sam, Nathan and Micah for the five long months of Jude’s treatment. Not having to worry where they would sleep meant they could focus all their energies on helping Jude get better.
Jude’s family were able to create many happy memories together at Ronald McDonald House. Micah helped bake and decorate Jude’s first birthday cake, and both boys loved the two Christmases spent at the House.
Every year, Ronald McDonald House takes in over 10,000 families. They are anxious, stressed and often, in danger of real financial hardship. You help us ease their troubles, with a place to stay and room to breathe.
This Christmas we are relying on the kindness and compassion of people like you, so we can continue to keep our doors and our hearts open for more families like Jude’s.
Please donate today to help families in need this Christmas.
Baby Jude’s birth was “a bit of a whirlwind”, according to his mum, Sam. He turned up nine days early, much to the delight of his parents and big brother Micah, who couldn't wait to meet his new sibling.
But their joy turned to anxiety when Sam and Nathan noticed that Jude was having trouble breathing in his humidicrib. Jude was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit at Monash Children’s Hospital.

“Words can’t adequately express the impact you have on the lives of so many people who benefit from Ronald McDonald House. Thank you!” Sam, Jude's mum
