Our Little Miracle Robin

Born at 23 weeks

"It is never an easy road having a premature baby, there are so many ups and downs. One big roller coaster ride with many mixed emotions and struggles along the way, but also one of the most beautiful experiences in the world to be able see your baby grow right in front of you".

Robin was born at just 23 weeks, weighing 630grams (our little fighter) was in too much of a hurry to enter this world.

At just 19 weeks I had complications with my pregnancy and needed a medical procedure. A few weeks later I went for another check-up scan to be told I had further complications and had developed an infection.

I was transported from my home in Young to Wagga Base Hospital then flown to Canberra Hospital, where I had my little boy Robin at 23 weeks, spending all up 5 months in the NICU at Canberra, day by day minute by minute even some days second by second not knowing if our son was going to survive. Robin was on maximum life support 3 times and developed an infection in his lungs while being in the hospital.

Our little miracle boy still has many challenging health problems ahead including chronic lung disease. This means many more appointments with Specialists and therapists. For now, Robin is now doing quite well he is a happy playful 4 year old.

Financially it can be a real struggle especially with unexpected Doctor’s appointments, follow up appointments and ongoing therapy.

Our family is ever so grateful for our “home away from home” the Ronald McDonald House Wagga.

As our son calls it “McDonald’s home”

This House is always so warm and welcoming, and not having to worry about anything financially, knowing we always have a clean bed and food on the table, is a very big stress relief for our family as we are travelling quite often to and from for appointments for Robin.

This House is truly our “home away from home “

With the kind, beautiful staff always so caring and helpful we really couldn’t do this without them, also to be able to meet new people and families along the way and share stories is comforting.
